I hope one of my prompts sparks joy, but if they don’t or you have your own ideas about a direction you’d like to take a nominated character or relationship, please do! I've only nominated things that I know I’ll love whatever I end up being gifted about them, so please follow your heart <3

General likes

• gender politics, anything exploring the way people of different genders go through life and the different things they deal with – systematic sexism, being married out of their family, pregnancy, etc. I also love anything that plays with gender eg cisswap (including gender bending a m/m ship to an m/f ship), trans characters, and bonus fantasy gender dynamics like omegaverse (I also enjoy mpreg in all its various flavours)
• whump, angst, hurt/comfort, dark!fic I – also enjoy fluff and humour as well! I make sure to emphasise that I enjoy the darker side of things because you kind of need to for gifts, but if you want to create something that is cracky nonsense please don’t feel put off lmao
• alternate universes – whether its canon divergence or everything’s the same but they have wings or anything really
• found family – can be platonic or romantic or sexual or something in between, as long as they’re all insane about each other
• ambiguous relationships – are they platonic or romantic or familial or what. Who knows
• arranged marriages – whether they fall in love or just end up as platonic life partners, I enjoy the strangers to lovers vibes
• polyam in all shapes and forms
• ace and/or aro headcanons
• I am just as fine with the pairs being one-sided, or not end game, as I am with them ending up in a long and happy relationship. I fully subscribe to the idea that sometimes shipping is about ‘wouldn’t it be fucked up if…’. So feel free to like kill one half of the pairing and have the other try to move on with their life, or have the pairings be no-strings-attached friends-with-benefits situations that aren't intended to last for a long time. Or have them be happily-ever-after married that's also good I do also like that.

- The Blood of Youth is currently my favourite media of all time, has been for about 2 years, and it doesn’t look like that’s going to abate any time soon. When I say you can create literally anything for me under the guise of worldbuilding, I mean it

- For a more specific worldbuilding prompt, I’d love anything that focuses on Xueyue City: the way it keeps running despite the fact one of the city lords is an alcoholic and the other lives on a mountain and never talks to anyone; Dengtian Tower and all that involves; what the non-martial artists in the lower city think about all the nonsense that’s going on

- This can also include worldbuilding spilling over into the other shows in the franchise/the novels/the donghua. It’s all the same canon to meeee

 

Char: Tang Lian

- Tang Lian. Hdasfldkjsghfkahgkaflghkfhgkafjhgkfhgkafhgklfdhg. I genuinely cannot begin to explain how much I love him. I spent approximately 2 days crying over episode 26

- again I’m basically viewing this as a free prompt. You could give me 10k character study and I’d cry (positive). You could show Tang Lian interacting with literally anyone and I would be on my knees thanking you for it. You could write him being horribly and brutally tortured by Dark River instead of dying and I would be eating that up with a spoon. He hurts very pretty and he CARES so much and I love him

 

Tang Lian/Tiannü Rui | Fairy Lady Rui

- I really do love these two. Such an opposites attract kind of vibe but it’s clear they really do care about each other despite Rui’s flirty facade and Lian’s inability to deal with flirting whatsoever. (Also!! The fact that they call each other by just a single character name!! Makes me scream!!)

- I’d love a look at their backstory and how they met, or how their reunion goes post canon

 

Sikong Qianluo & Tang Lian

- Sikong Qianluo was about 10 when 17 year old Tang Lian came to Xueyue City, and it’s pretty obvious from their every interaction that she sees him as an older brother. Sikong Changfeng even describes him as her Xiongzhang rather than her Dashixiong when he’s talking to Tang Lianyue, which I noticed on a rewatch and promptly started screaming about

 

Baili Dongjun & Tang Lian

- the funniest master & disciple combo. Depressed alcoholic vs anxious nerd. They have nothing in common. It’s also pretty obvious in the very brief amount of time they interact that Baili Dongjun cares a lot about Tang Lian and really believes in him and his abilities, and I’d love to see more of them together

 

Sikong Changfeng & Sikong Qianluo

- and for my non-Tang Lian based prompt: best cdrama dad of all time and his spoiled brat daughter

- the author of the novel doesn’t understand what a consistent timeline is, so at some points of the show and novel you can calculate that Sikong Changfeng was about 17 or 18 when Qianluo was born. Obviously you don’t have to run with that but I’m obsessed with teen dad Sikong Changfeng just as a concept. (trans teen dad Sikong Changfeng??? *eyes emoji*)

 

Mysterious Lotus Casebook

Char: Shan Gudao

- one thing you should know about me is that I am the number one (read: only) Shan Gudao Defender. Yeah he did all that, but honestly he deserved to do it. He’s a complex nuanced character and also a horrible awful person and I love him

- I’d love and appreciate anything that views him as a character with like. thoughts and feelings and motivations rather than just a cartoon villain. He can still be the villain and he can still lose if you want but I just want him to be marginally sympathetic

 

Char: He Xiaolan

- Fang Duobing’s birth mother is just so dead. What if she had got the chance to LIVE ;-;

 

Li Lianhua | Li Xiangyi/Shan Gudao; Li Lianhua | Li Xiangyi & Shan Gudao

- have you seen THIS POLL????? these two are insane about each other and literally every option on that poll is a goldmine and I would love and appreciate anything based on it. The most important thing is that they’re obsessed about each other but in completely different and non-compatible ways

 

He Xiaolan/Shan Gudao

- in the show it very much shows that she was interested in him but he was not interested in her. And yet, Fang Duobing still happens. And Shan Gudao doesn’t even know about it??

Char: Xiao Jingrui

- I’ve been thinking about Jingrui’s messed up family stuff, and his relationships with both sets of parents and siblings and especially that his brother married his sister but they’re not related but they only really properly know each other because of him.

- what if his not!twin hadn’t died but they still didn’t know which child was which? Would they just have picked one or would they both have swapped between the parents. And if that was the case would they go together or would they be like divorced parents who only ever see each other at swap time

 

Meng Zhi/Xiao Jingyu

- woe! Rarepair be upon ye

- basically the story is I was thinking about how well Meng Zhi knows Lin Shu and how much he trusts him and my brain alighted on the idea that he was in a secret relationship with Jingyu/Prince Qi which only Lin Shu had managed to figure out. Hence why MCS calls him Meng-dage [I am aware that people do just call their older friends dage. I was just overthinking it]

- I’d love to see an au where Jingyu survives secretly in Meng Zhi’s house the whole time. Or maybe even a secretly a girl/omega au where the emperor finds out and marries him off to Meng Zhi to avoid scandal. Or just them being sweet and maybe no one dying, as a treat

 

Meng Zhi/Mu Nihuang; Meng Zhi & Mu Nihuang

- all I’m saying is, the emperor said that Nihuang would have to marry someone who bested her in the tournament, so if the emperor also said that Meng Zhi had to compete in the tournament she would have had to marry him, because there’s no way the emperor would believe that three slave children defeated his own captain

-whether their arranged marriage ends up romantic or stays strictly platonic is up to you – I enjoy thinking about both! There’s a scene in the show where they’re both talking to MCS and it gave me intense ‘married couple worried about their single friend’ vibe

Ming Cheng/Ming Lou

- they’re brothers they’re lovers they’re master and servant they’re politician and secretary they’re soldier they’re spies. They’re everything to me

- AUGH this family. They all love each other so much but they’re so Complicated and the dynamics between them are messed up and they keep LYING to each other even when they’re all on the same side.

Char: Ming Cheng

- THE character of all time. His position in the household is solid but from the outside he’s not even one of them. That must weigh on him, right??

 

Ming Cheng/Wang Manchun

- I just keep thinking about proxy-fucking. Like. She’s in love with Ming Lou. He’s in love with Ming Lou. She’s making do with him as an extension of Ming Lou. He’s using and manipulating her on Ming Lou’s instructions. They both hate each other.

 

Dashing Youth

Li Changsheng & Sikong Changfeng; Char: Sikong Changfeng; Baili Dongjun & Sikong Changfeng; Baili Dongjun & Li Hanyi & Sikong Changfeng

- devastated we didn’t get to see more of the Xueyue City Lords interacting in this show. Sikong Changfeng was Li Changsheng|Nangong Chunshui’s disciple for the whole of 5 minutes. I need moreeeeeeeeeee

- once again I would like to push my trans Sikong Changfeng agenda. He claims he woke up in a temple with no memory of his past but like, what if that’s just what he tells people so they don’t connect him to the little girl who ran away. How does this affect his interactions with his shifu and shixoingmen?

 

Sha Po Lang

At point of writing, I have just started reading volume 4, but I will have finished by reveals (one of the reasons for me signing up is to make sure I finish it by then). I haven’t read any fic yet because I don’t want any major spoilers (although I think I already do know how they end up? Maybe?) so I am basically giving anyone who wants to create for it free reign to write the 10k SPL fic/draw the 10 page SPL comic of your dreams.

The only vaguely prompt-ish thing I have is there was one scene where Chang Geng was like ‘if I’d known you when your father was beating you as a child I would have taken you away and raised you myself’ and all I could think was ‘what and groom him to be your childbride?? creep (affectionate)’. So if you need a prompt you could go with that but like that is very fucked up and again if you don’t want to create something really fucked up I will appreciate literally anything because I’m really enjoying the novel and when I did quickly look at the state of the fandom on ao3 it didn’t look like there was much which is Tragic

- I’ve largely (like 1 exception) tried not to request canon pairings or the main ships in the fandom for smaller fandoms, because in my heart it goes against the rules even if they do technically qualify

- I opt in to remixes/sequels of my own/you the author’s own fic

- Any fandom that had multiple canons (novel, live action show, animated show, etc etc) or where there are prequels and sequels that are technically different fandoms I’m fine with any combination of canon within the fic, even if it’s requested only for one specific version of it. Life’s too short to get stressed about canon

  • I am not immune to shizunfucking. I’ve not entirely worked out how this would even work given Tang Lian’s whole being Like That. Maybe some kind of au where shizunfucking is expected? I don't know but I would enjoy it

  • these guys are so very Polycule, to me. I mostly see it as Peizhi and Mowen have been together for a long time and then Peizhi gets a crush on Zhang Ping, but Mowen is the one who has to actually make that happen because he's the practical one. I would also be happy for the pairings not being in a polycule (I only nominated the Mowen ones because he's my favourite)

  • This is my one exception to the ‘no canon couples’ because a) there is literally no fandom and b) the ending of this show made me weep and I love them. Maybe they can just live in the village the rest of their lives and forget about revenge and be happy (I mean in canon they would literally never but MAYBE IN AN AU)

琅琊榜 | Nirvana in Fire

  • I'm a big fan of AUs where the Emperor forces Nihuang to marry someone, and I think these are all fun options. Whether the relationship ends up being particularly romantic or not is up to the author's discretion

  • I just think both of these pairings are great because they have nothing in common except bonding over bullying Mei Changsu to look after himself (or mourning him if you want the sad version) (and I'm always happy to receive the sad version *eyes emoji*) and yet I think in an opposites attract kind of way I think they'd be so fun

• Lín Shū | Méi Chángsū | Sū Zhé/Mù Níhuáng/Xiāo Jǐngyǎn 
  
  • It's not really 'polyamory to solce love triangle' because it's not really a love triangle but also. I love the idea that all three of them were romantically together as children but after Lin Shu died Nihuang and Jingyan fell apart. Does MCS' return bring them back together, or have they become too different?

  • This lends itself to dark/manipulative/dubcon/noncon fic for me, either MCS manipulating Jinghuan or Jinghuan getting his revenge on MCS

  • I'm so sorry I came up with this rare pair on my rewatch and I'm literally just obsessed with them. MCS called Meng 'da-ge' because he was dating Jingyu-gege (I'm aware this isn't how it really works but AUGH)
  • There's just so much Tragedy going on. Stalwart Commander Meng spending a decade loyally serving the Emperor who killed his lover. Or maybe he did save him and he lives in disguise in Meng-dage's house.

  • If there is one thing you should know about me its that I think Shan Gudao is a really interesting character. Like he's fucked up and evil but honestly. I get it

  • I’d be interested in this happening in an AU where everything doesn’t go off the rails (so like Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan don’t die) or maybe these two getting together means that everything doesn’t go off the rails

If you've got your own thoughts/headcanons/ideas I would also be super happy to read them - it's always more fun to read when the person writing is having fun themselves! • aro &/ ace characters – I’m an aro & ace character, so I think there should be more of them around. I’m fine with them anywhere on the spectrum from ‘fucks because they think its fun’ to ‘unaware of romance as a concept’

• They must be together all the time. Zang Ming IS Xiao Chong’s eyes. What has he seen, how much does he pass on?

• like they knew each other as children, but we only see one short clip of them. Did they continue to be friends right until XCH was exiled? Did this have bad repercussions on YRY? Or had they already been separated by their gender or the fact he was a prince or by her illness

• iirc YRY said she once thought she could love him but she’s too similar to him? This is so JUICY

Sikong Qianluo & Tang Lian

• I love these two and their relationship immensely

• He’s her brother who she met when he was 17 and she was 10-12ish (what are ages) and then there are 7 years until canon starts. What sort of shenanigans did they get up to?

• We only see a bit of SQL’s grief after The Event but she’s known TL the longest of all of them. How was she coping off-screen?

• When I first watched this I was Not Sold but I now have a deep affection for them

• I headcanon TL as on the aro/ace spectrum so him not knowing what to do when he finds himself falling in love

• And/or: TL knowing that he can’t be with her because of Duty and Rui understanding this but wishing it was different! Pining from afar! Hidden relationship?

Tang Lian & Ye Ruoyi

• TL doesn’t quite have the easy affection with YRY as he does to his martial siblings, especially closer to the beginning, but I would love to see them interact more

• I think these two are the ‘looks normal because they’re compared to XS&LWJ&SQL&WX but are actually Also Not Normal they’re just better at hiding it’

• you could write anything about him and I would fall crying at your feet

• These two are so funny actually

• We only really see them interact on the island and BDJ is just haranguing TL affectionately, but when BDJ is talking about TL earlier he is so genuinely proud of him. I’d love to see more of them together

• ok so this is my Crack Ship of all time, and is my personal and not very likely conclusion as to why Lin Shu|MCS is so close to Meng Zhi – in my headcanon Lin Shu is the only person who ever knew about it (because he’s nosy) and that’s why he calls Meng da-ge

• opportunity for some cute pre-canon fluff with the looming threat of canon waiting in the background

• OR I think a fun canon-divergence would be that instead of having Prince Qi killed the emperor marries him off to his extremely loyal and politically neutral captain of the guards – how many people are aware that this happened is optional

Meng Zhi/Mu Nihuang

• Nihuang said she’d only marry someone who could defeat her so the emperor is like ‘ok Commander Meng you are up go do your duty’ and the they have to get married despite neither of them being particularly happy about it

• There’s one scene where these two are standing beside each other looking at MCS and I got such ‘being judged by your married friends who are concerned about you’ vibes, for some reason

Lin Chen /& Xiao Jingyan

• they deserve each other. I wish SO BAD they interacted in canon

• falling in love or becoming friends with each other because they both love Mei Changsu

• teaming up on MCS together to get him to look after himself (whether that would work: unknown)

Consort Jing & Lin Chen

• so silly headcanon time again but obviously Consort Jing knew Lin Chen’s father so what if they were related. So Consort Jing is Lin Chen’s aunt/cousin/older sister

• this headcanon or actually any version of these two being friends would be great for Lin Chen tormenting Jingyan, also

• obviously we know very little about Prince Qi in canon so anything about him would be really cool

• something was going on between them while DFQC was locked up and I’m not saying they were together together but I think it would be funny/dramatic

• I LOVE THEM Shangque is head over heels and Jieli is also head over heels but she won’t admit it because of her very obvious baggage
